What is ASQMS?
Automotive Software Quality Management System
ASQMS (Automotive Software Quality Management System) is an international standard established to ensure software quality across the automotive industry ecosystem; it is a quality‑management system for automotive software.
Whereas existing quality‑management standards focus on hardware and processes, ASQMS applies across the entire ecosystem and lifecycle of automotive software.
It is the first international standard to manage and certify the quality of automotive software within a management‑system framework.
Why ASQMS?
Cars are now platforms rather than simple machines. Electrification, intelligence, connectivity, and autonomous driving. The integration of hardware and software systems has become the key factor that determines driving safety, functionality, performance, security, and the user experience.
In this environment, automotive software must be managed systematically across the entire lifecycle to match its central role in the industry ecosystem. Managing only a project or only part of the lifecycle has created major gaps in quality assurance for software‑defined vehicles.
ASQMS is the first and only global certification standard that assures automotive software quality through an organization’s management‑system framework, enabling both regulatory compliance and industry trust.
ASQMS Development Process
Since 2021, ASQMS has been developed and established through joint work led by the China Association for the Promotion of Quality and Safety of Consumer Products (CACPQSP), with participation from major OEMs, parts suppliers, consulting firms, and certification bodies.
After multiple reviews and pilot operations, it was finalized as a group standard in 2023, and since 2025 ASQMS Deutschland GmbH has overseen global supervision and management as the standard has taken hold internationally.
In July 2025, under an agreement between China’s CACPQSP (under SAMR) and ASQMS Deutschland GmbH, ASQMS Asia was designated as the ASQMS Asia management body (excluding China).
